Accessibility

The Paramount & State Theatres strive to be accessible to all patrons of the arts. The following is a list of services we provide to patrons who would like accessible accommodations.

Seating Accommodations

The Paramount & State Theatre staff is trained to assist you in selecting seating that best meets your individual needs. As The Paramount is a historic building there is no elevator to the upper levels, and accordingly, orchestra level accessible seating is available to people who are unable to climb stairs.

Various seating accommodations are available upon request and can be purchased over the phone. Accessible seating is also available in The Paramount and State Theatres for patrons with vision or hearing impairment. Patrons who cannot or do not wish to transfer from their wheelchairs to a theatre seat should request wheelchair seating locations when ordering their tickets, online or over the phone at (512) 474-1221.

It is important to request accessible seating when purchasing your tickets. As there are a limited number of available seats, waiting until the day of the performance does not guarantee an accessible seat will be available. To check the availability of accessible seats for a particular show, please call The Paramount Theatre Box Office at (512) 474-1221.

Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. Assistive Listening Devices are available free of charge in both theatres lobbies on a first-come, first-served basis. They can be picked up prior to show time by simply leaving a driver’s license or other form of identification. The ALDs do not work between the theatres so be sure to pick up a receiver in the lobby of the event you are attending. We encourage early arrival when you are planning to use assistive listening devices so there is enough time to pick up and adjust the devices, if necessary.

Sign Language Interpreters

Sign language interpreted performances are available for all events including children’s performances, upon request. Requests for an interpreter must be made no later than ten (10) business days prior to the event day you wish to attend and are subject to the availability of an interpreter. Requests for sign language interpreters can be made by email at boxoffice@austintheatre.org or by phone at (512) 474-1221.

Audio Description

Audio description is a concise narration of the key visual elements of a theatrical performance, woven in between dialogue that enables people who are blind or have low vision to follow the action. The describer talks via a small transmitter to listeners with an earpiece seated throughout the audience. Requests for an Audio Description must be made no later than ten (10) business days prior to the event day you wish to attend. Requests for sign language interpreters can be made by email at boxoffice@austintheatre.org or by phone at (512) 474-1221. Services are not guaranteed for all events, however we will make every effort to accommodate each request.

Parking

The Paramount and State Theatres have no parking in close proximity to the front doors, however, there is a sizable loading zone in front of the Paramount theatres which has a ramp leading to the sidewalk from the street. No event parking is allowed in this zone however it can be used as a drop-off and pick up location. There is meter parking options on various streets near the theatre including accessible parking spots located on many street corners. Individuals who have a parking hangtag or license plate with the International Symbol of Access may park in available meter spots at no cost but must observe time limits.

In addition, the 600 Congress garage has accessible parking available on various floors. Please check the signage for accessible parking locations as you enter the garage. Regular parking rates will apply.
