Story Wranglers is a seven-week in-school residency in which third graders learn the foundations of creative writing through arts-integrated lessons designed to motivate students and improve their writing skills, confidence, creativity, and storytelling. During the residency, each classroom writes hundreds of stories as a class, in small groups, and in individual journals. At the end of the seven weeks, professional actors known as the Paramount Story Wranglers transform students’ original stories from page to stage in a live performance for the entire campus!

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. Available free of charge in both theatres lobbies on a first-come, first-served basis.
Various seating accommodations are available upon request and can be purchased over the phone. Accessible seating is also available in The Paramount and State Theatres for patrons with vision or hearing impairment.
Our Paramount Events Team offers turn-key solutions, working with you to capture your vision for your event from the initial planning stages through a post-event wrap up.

Each Camp Paramount session will have about 60 campers. The campers will be divided into 4 groups of about 15 campers based on the grade they will enter next fall.
Each day, campers will take classes in music, dance, tech (prop making), production and acting. Each class is about 45 minutes long. The classes are age appropriate, and all relate to the theme of the camp. The last couple of days of camp are spent refining the show and getting it ready for the big stage.
No. Each session has a theme. All of the songs and dances performed will be related to the theme. Some themes of past camps have been: Songs of Summer, The 80’s!, Broadway Showstoppers and Great American Songbook to name a few. Each session has a different theme so campers may attend more than one camp session without duplicating a theme. Themes will not be announced until a week or so before the camp starts.
While the campers do attend an acting class each day, acting is not the main focus of the camp. This camp is a fun and fast-paced 2-week musical theatre camp. Campers will perform Broadway style musical numbers and iconic pop hits on the historic Paramount Stage during their final performance.

In February, the construction of a new theatre at 713 Congress was announced, conceived as the Gaiety. Owned by Austin native Ernest Nalle and designed by John Eberson, the theatre, part of the Interstate Vaudeville Circuit, was meant to bring top talent to Austin and elevate the city’s cultural footprint.
Only 8 months after construction was announced, the theatre was completed. The $150,000 structure encompassed over 500,000 cubic feet and seated 1,316. The theatre was a “hemp house” with a system of ropes and sandbags for stage effects and had a hand-painted stage curtain. Both the hemp-house system and the curtain are still in use.
On October 11, 1915, the Majestic Theatre opened its doors as Austin’s premier stage for vaudeville, selling 1,000 seats, most at 25¢ a ticket. The lineup for the well-reviewed evening included a multi-character, one-man scene from Oliver Twist, a performance from the comedic A Novel Marriage and a number of music and dance acts.
World-famous magician, Harry Houdini, performed eight shows at the Majestic. Five students from the University of Texas challenged Houdini to escape from a trick of their construction, which he did. Houdini’s legacy lives on at the Paramount Theatre today – in the auditorium ceiling, just to the left of the painting of Saint Cecilia. Legend has it that the Houdini hole was carved to perform a suspended levitation trick.
Vaudeville was the top entertainment option in the country. Shows generally included a series of unrelated acts, including comedians, musicians, dancers and magicians, on one bill. The new Majestic Theatre drew nationally-known vaudeville performers to Austin. Notable performances include the Marx brothers, Anna Pavlova, Sally Rand, and John Philip Sousa.

Yamato - The Drummers of Japan
