Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny

Two beloved picture books from Margaret Wise Brown are brought to life by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia (The Rainbow Fish in 2023), and their enchanting puppetry. Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s pretend tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mum. Both stories feature endearing rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery never fail to infuse young readers with a reassuring sense of security.

About Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia began fifty years ago when its three founding members made it the company’s mission to make the arts accessible to children in outlying communities around Atlantic Canada. WHAT TO EXPECT

Performers

Two performers will operate many puppets that will be used to tell the story of Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny. These performers will not speak. Instead, you will hear the story read aloud. Sometimes you will see the puppeteers on stage and sometimes you will not see them, only the puppets they operate. At the end of the performance they will introduce themselves and teach the audience about how they operate the puppets.

Sound

You will hear the stories read aloud. The words you hear are directly from the books by Margaret Wise Brown. The narrator has not changed any of the text. You will also hear a musical score that will enhance and compliment the story.

Lighting

The Runaway Bunny is performed with general stage lighting, and you will be able to see the puppeteers in action. Goodnight Moon will be performed using black lights, so you only see the puppets and not the puppeteers.

What to Bring

Please bring any tools that will help make the experience comfortable for you! Some suggestions are: noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses or visors, fidgets, and communication devices.
